Hi there

Me again, Mummy Lou just reporting on the daily trials and tribulations of being a Mum, Mom, Mama or which ever suits you. As I said in my last post I am a Mum of a 2 year old boy living in Sydney Australia. I recently had my 40th birthday and it sent me into a spin about age, life, where I am at this moment in time and who am I really and what have I done with my life and what is my purpose for being here. When I turned 30 it didn’t bother me at all but turning the big 40 actually made me cry, laugh, think oh my Universe or God or whatever suits you. As I have always been at work or working on something I have been a little frazzled by being at home, being a mum and turning 40. My husband and I have talked about another baby, which needs to happen now, as I have been projecting myself into the future and imagining myself in my 50’s and 60’s with children in their early 20’s. This has really daunted me for some reason. I think it comes down to the fact that I have too much time on my hands to think about things that don’t really matter. Life is far too short to be worrying about age and how you are going to be in the future. It is about living in the now and treasuring those happy moments. Those moments that make life happy and complete. For it is not about the struggle, the Universe wants us to be all that we can be. The universe or God, whichever does it for you is guiding you to be a shining star. An exceptional being living an exceptional life. I say lots of great things to people but sometimes I need to listen to what I say because it is so wonderful to be living right now. Right at this moment in time.

The world is changing because there are people who need to show the world that times are not tough, time and moments in time are blessings and as we are a collective world we can see that and understand the ways and laws of the universe then we can be, do and have wonderful experiences in our lives filled with abundance in all areas of our lives. As I am writing this my son is sitting on my lap trying to get to the computer and type in what he thinks is worthwhile reading. He is a beautiful little boy who really has helped me put things into perspective. Even though I must say that it has been about me for a couple of weeks leading up to my birthday. That was my path for that time. Now I know that I have some things to do and places to go and people to see and meet and become friends with. I have been a Mum and will always be a Mum but hiding inside my house whilst the world continues, well it is time for me to get out and about and share what I have learnt being a mum and also about health, wellness and everything that life experience has given me.

Thanks for reading

Yours naturally

Mummy Lou

My son is just 2 and we went on an outing to the Sydney Opera House. It was a beautiful day in Sydney and we went with our neighbours and their 3 year old daughter. We arrived and everything was great. The Opera House had some activities for kids to do before they went in for the Nursery Rhyme Time. My son thought this was great and was having a lot of fun until I had to take him to the toilet and then into the studio for the mini concert. Well this did not go down well and he cried and cried and cried. He was crying uncontrollably with tears streaming down his face. Well this did not go down well and he cried and cried and cried. He was crying uncontrollably with tears streaming down his face. I had to remove him from the hall and wait until his sobs were at a minimal. We went back in and he was okay for a little while so we decided to try sitting with the rest of the kids in the general area. He was doing really well until he decided that he wanted to be on stage and shine like the star that he is. When he went up the stairs to get on the stage the look on his face was priceless. Unfortunately the usher was not as enthusiastic as my 2 year old and swiftly removed my son from the stage much to his horror. The uncontrollable crying started once again so mummy called daddy and we went home which allowed him to calm down and mummy to try to be calm as well. No one tells you or prepares you for these moments but these moments help mummy and child grow and realise that these moments are okay and not to beat up on yourself thinking that you are not a good parent. It was a good day in the end but I think that until he gets a bit older it is not a good idea to take him along to organised group outings.

Have a great evening

I know it has been some time since I posted anything but with a very active 2 year old I definitely have my work cut out for me. He is wonderful and I love him. Words can not express how much this boy brings me joy, happiness and all that embodies love. He is a guiding light for me and I am truly grateful for his presence in my life and the lives of my family. My 66 year old father had a serious heart attack recently, which was a shock to not only him but also to the rest of my family. He has always been very fit and well we all thought to a degree healthy but his heart said otherwise. He had to have major open heart surgery and after almost 4 weeks in hospital he is finally at home and recovering. It goes to show though, that good nutrition is so important and this idea needs to be instilled in our children from a very early age. Yes, you are probably saying, but I have a fussy eater, they don’t eat the vegetables that I put on their plate, etc., etc., etc. The idea is to give them an option to chose what they want. My son some nights will only eat protein. Of course it is good quality grass fed meat from butchers that sell organic meat. I want my son to have the best start in life so I never give him inferior foods. Other days he might eat some vegetables or organic red kidney beans or a stir fry that I make with coconut milk and vegetables. I mix it up and make sure that it is tasty as he loves flavour.

I encourage him to eat fruit. At first I would prepare it for him but he would not eat it. Then I started cutting it up and leaving it on a plate for him to eat when he wanted to and this worked wonders. He is very independent and loves to feed himself. I love it and he does too. He now has his own table and chairs that he sits at when we eat and he loves this as well. He is such a big boy now. Some days I think where did my little baby boy go. I have some great resources on my website so check them out on the resources page and the product page. I will be adding some great books to the product section of my site. Besides my book I love “Well Adjusted Babies”. It is a bible for parents who want a good healthy start to their children’s lives.

Look forward to chatting soon

Hello all I hope all are well in this beautiful universe that we are living in. To continue on from my last post I was talking about how some very healthy food may be affecting your child’s behaviour or learning capabilities. It is sometimes a lot to take in especially if your little one loves all the fruits and vegetables that you have to eliminate from your diet as well as other treats that you may be giving your child at the moment. It is also difficult if you are faced with opposition from family and friends who say that just once isn’t going to hurt. Well that once lasts at least 3 days until it leaves the system entirely. So if you want a child who is clearly not behaving or being calm because of a particular food then please for the sake of your child don’t give it to them. Even if they scream the roof in your must be strong. It the 70’s when my Mum was first introduced to this she made the decision to go cold turkey. To eliminate everything immediately.
I hope all are well in this beautiful universe that we are living in. She pulled everything out of the cupboards and put different food stuffs in different boxes and then gave away those products that we could no longer have. I was only 7 at the time and not really having a favourite food etc so it was a great new adventure for all of us. This included my Mum, Dad, my eldest sister, my youngest sister and me. We noticed changes immediately especially in my youngest sister with her asthma. She would spend almost every weekend in hospital before we started this new way of eating. Once we started those weekends disappeared, which was great as it was good to have my sister at home and experiencing great happiness and wellness.

The complete elimination of all artificial colours, flavours and preservatives as well as those foods containing salicylates. I think that it would be a great idea for every one to try this so they can see the differences eliminating processed food and those foods that cause issues with concentration, behaviour, learning, mental or stress disorders and so much more. Children as young as 3 are being put on antidepressants when all they would need to do would be to change their eating habits. My book “10 Tips on How To Manage ADHD Naturally goes through what I experienced and the things to consider when raising children in general. I bring up topics on Chiropractic, Investigate before you vaccinate and much more. It is a passion of mine to help all families, Women, Children and Men to lead happy and healthier lives. To have them experience optimal health for a lifetime through better nutritional and lifestyle choices.

So next time when you go to your supermarket to choose a particular food item for your child and family read the labels. If it has to many ingredients or too many numbers then don’t buy it. You can download an iPhone App and iBook on all the many numbered additives and what they can potentially do to your nervous system and health in general. Also, when feeding your child buy when you can organic foods and prepare the meals yourself. Most of the times the bought baby food has a lot of sugar and additives that are not appropriate for young nervous systems to cope with such a bombardment of additives. It is fun to make up the food and watch them enjoy what you have made. Have fun and if you run out of ideas just make things up. In the end they will enjoy it and you will have fun making food for your little ones and if you do it well turn it into a book.

Have fun!

As a side I love it when my son wakes up in the afternoon after his sleep and starts chatting away. He is 20 months and at the moment there are a few words that are sensicle but mostly just his babble about things. He chats away and then after going over everything starts saying Mama, mama, mummy, mum and then Papa (my husband) very funny. I then go in to him and he has the biggest smile and he says “up”. What a joy he is I am truly grateful for such a great gift.

Anyway lets get to the topic of nutrition. You know every baby is different. The WHO (World Health Organisation) guidelines are to begin feeding baby solids at around 6 months. For me Nicolas was definitely not interested in food at that age. He was getting all his nutrition from my breast milk.I did make all his food and continue to do the same but he just did not like the pureed food at all. He was about 9 months old before he really wanted to have solids in any case. After a little tooing and froing I decided well, we eat 100% organic good quality food so why can’t he just eat what we do. He sees us eating this food so he must think why am I eating mush when Mama and Papa are eating something else. So we stayed within the guidelines of introducing foods that may cause allergy or intolerance and as my family has a history of these we thought it best to just start introducing things gradually.

A great book that helped me was “Well Adjusted Babies”. It is a book written by an Australian Chiropractor who is also a mother of 5 boys. What an inspiration. A very good read and my bible for food. Around this time we also introduced him to a great Indian restaurant called Abhi’s in Concord. The food is fresh and he loved it. Nicolas loves flavour and so was the begining of no thank you to bland food not for this little boy. It is important to do what works for you. We soon discovered and later confirmed that he has a dairy intolerance and so we do goat’s cheese he is not a milk fan but we do use rice, almond and oat milk which are all high in calcium if that it a concern for you. He loves avocado so I do a guacamole and he can’t get enough of it. He loves spices, herbs everything that gives a dish flavour. He is a big protein eater which also includes nuts such as cashews, almonds, pine nuts, walnuts but at this stage not peanuts. He has an ABC (almond, brazil and cashew nuts) spread that he enjoys.

He is amazing and is a very good eater. It is just important for you to remember that all healthy nutritious food is not always good for children and adults with sensitivities. If you have an intolerance or allergy to aspirin then you have to avoid all foods that are high in natural salicylates. Salicylic acid is a derivate of aspirin and so foods such as tomatoes, all citrus fruit, all berries, stone fruit, melons etc must be avoided as well as foods high in amines etc. Fruits such as pears, figs and dates are safe but need to be introduced slowly to gage any reaction, from rash etc to behavioural and mental changes. If you live in Australia and in Sydney you can go and see the Royal Prince Alfred Allergy Unit to see if you or your children have any intolerances which have an affect on behaviour etc.

Chat next time continuing on from here and also check out my ebook on our products page this gives you an insight into my life experience with ADHD and my youngest sister who suffered from asthma and how diet change and chiropractic helped us live healthier lives and no ADHD or asthma.

Hi everyone I know that it has been a while since I have said anything but I have been having a great time being a mum to a 20 month old toddler. What fun it is. Yes, there are days of frustration and well days of I don’t know what is going on but those days are very far and few between. I think a lot of it has to do with communication and learning and understanding what your little one wants and needs. You soon become very good at understanding and with great resources like “Toddler Tactics” by Pinky McKay you will have less days of frustration and better understanding of what is going on in that little mind and body. It must be so overwhelming for them to be taking in so much everyday and processing what is going on in their environment. I would love to hear about your experiences and my next blog will entail nutrition and what to consider when feeding you beautiful toddler. Yours naturally! Louise

Louise

Jane holds a forum once a month at her place with great topics to discuss. Last weeks topic was nutirition which also included solids for babies and baby led solids which was quite interesting. Some Mums soley breastfed fed their babies until they were 12 months before they introduced solids.

Dear World

What a journey! I am now the proud Mum of one Nicolas Alessandro. He is the joy of my life and came in to this world with a bang.

He was born on the 29th June 2010 at 6:40pm. He had been under a lot of distress and lost weight in utero. I had contracted Group Strep B after my waters broke higher up. So all I was getting was a little trickle every now and then. He had been in this infection and was an emergency caesarean. He also contracted the infection in his blood and sputum (lungs). He was delivered not breathing and very thin. He weighed 2.890kg (6lb 35oz). He was put on a respirator but pulled this out himself shortly after. He spent 6 days in the Nursery (Neonate Intensive Care Unit) on antibiotics with canulas in his hands and feet. He also had a lumbar puncture and head ultrasound because they thought he may have had meningitis. After 6 days he left the nursery and came up with me on the postnatal ward. We had one night on the ward and then home. We probably should have stayed to establish a breastfeeding routine but I wanted to get my family home. I don’t think many people realised that I too had experienced trauma and was in shock. I have read that women who have ceasarean’s can take up to a week before their milk is established. No one told me this so I felt a little inadequate or that I was not doing what I was meant to be doing for my son as a Mum.

It was discovered that my milk supply was not enough and that he had lost weight rapidly. He went down to 2.600kg. We now have a breastfeeding plan in place, which consists of both breasts for 40 minutes, my hand expressed breast milk of 60mls plus around 30mls of goat’s milk formula and he is putting on weight. This is not a horror story but a journey that we had in order for he and I to be safe and well. He is a beautiful little boy who I am sure is going to grow to be a BIG beautiful boy. Taller then his Papa and I before he turns 11, hehe.

I accepted that I could not have the plan that I wanted, which was a wonderful calm water birth in a birth centre in a Sydney hospital. My midwife was amazing and through the entire ordeal stayed with me and my son. During the operation and because Nicolas had suffered trauma he was not placed on my chest at birth. We had a connection though when after recovery I was wheeled into the ICU and said to him, “Hello my darling, Mummy is here”. He put his hand out to me and I put my finger in his hand and he wrapped his fist around my finger. He knew who I was, he is my special boy.

Hello everyone. Today I am 38 weeks pregnant. The last time we spoke I was 34 weeks and in that time things have changed with the pregnancy. For the good of course, it truly has been wonderful. My tummy has now dropped and I am having more frequent Braxton Hicks and my baby is moving a lot more. His head is 4/5th into the pelvis and facing in the right direction. We managed to walk with my dog Kara 7km today. We all loved it. I feel so healthy and fit and truly grateful for this wonderful life that has chosen my husband and I to be his parents. What a wonderful gift.
